We have reached an important next step in the project to slow the traffic on the C7 road at Piddinghoe and improve safety for all users. A new multi-use path is proposed north from Piddinghoe as far as Chapel Barn to complete the Egrets Way between Newhaven and Lewes. Because of width restrictions, from the northern village junction the path needs to be built immediately beside the road, either on the east or on the west side, until Riverside Farm where it will move further away from the carriageway. These changes and other traffic calming measures will warrant a speed limit reduction to 40mph.
Following the South Downs National Park Authority’s (SDNPA) two launch meetings at the village hall on Wednesday and Thursday this week, a community consultation exercise is now LIVE. The National Park website includes background information, frequently asked questions, and all the plans and visualisations for the two alternative route options. There is a survey form to complete online; alternatively households in the parish will receive hard copies of the consultation survey in the forthcoming week. Completed forms can be either dropped off at 19 Brookside or posted to SDNPA headquarters at Midhurst. You can go directly to the online survey form here. The deadline for responses is midnight on Sunday 15 March.
This is an important opportunity for Piddinghoe. For decades we have been lobbying for lower speed limits, traffic calming and a safe route north from the village so that driving is not the only option. Please get involved, look at the proposals and give your views.
The plans will be exhibited again in the village hall twice in the consultation period: at the coffee morning between 10:00 and 12:00 on Friday 27 February, and from 6:30 to 7:30pm prior to the parish council meeting on Tuesday 3 March.
