An Extraordinary General Meeting of the Parish Council has been called for Tuesday 13 August to decide whether to raise council tax to cover the funding shortfall for the village hall refurbishment.
The Village Hall Management Committee has so far raised two-thirds of the £200,000 required for the refurbishment project, leaving some £67,000 to find. The fund-raising is continuing, but one grant already offered will be lost if the project doesn’t proceed before November 2024. So the Parish Council is to consider covering the shortfall, up to £70,000, from council tax. But as this could increase Band D council tax by between £33.80 and £48 a year, the Council will only go ahead with clear support from parishioners.
A consultation letter is being distributed with the July 2024 edition of The Villager (now online here). Households are asked to respond by Saturday 10 August by completing the reply slip and posting it by hand or Royal Mail (stamp required!) to Glebe Cottage, opposite the village hall.
It is really important that we hear back from as many parishioners as possible by 10 August.
