We made it!
The Safer C7 crowdfunding appeal closed yesterday. We are very pleased to announce that the £20,000 target was not only met, but exceeded. Thanks to the generous contributions made by 143 people, a grand total of £21,257 has been raised in 69 days.
This amount, together with the £26,000 provided by local councils and charities, means that The Safer C7 Project is now in a position to move forward.
We will be seeking to appoint a specialist engineer who brings knowledge of innovative and successful schemes for slowing traffic on busy country roads, and who is inspired to achieve a solution that could act as a template for rural roads elsewhere
The Project Delivery Team has recently been expanded to include a local resident who is a transport engineer. Her professional experience will be invaluable, as we begin the process of commissioning a survey and costed design plan to improve safety on the C7.
However, it is not just the money that is important to the project. The many heartening messages of support we have received, clearly demonstrate the strong local conviction that something must be done to improve the safety of this beautiful road in the South Downs National Park for everyone who uses it. We will continue to inform supporters about the ongoing development of the project as it progresses.
