The Newhaven and Seaford Sailing Club have advised that water quality at the Piddinghoe lake is deteriorating as a result of the heatwave. Samples of water taken from the pond have now given a weak, but positive result for the presence of blue-green algae toxins in the water.
They are therefore advising people to exercise caution. This includes not entering the water deliberately and also keeping dogs on leads and away from slipways and the water’s edge. Anyone who does enter the water should ensure that they shower afterwards. They also recommend that anyone handling anything that may have come into contact with the water should wash their hands afterwards.
